Spanish Publishers Take On the Publishing World

Spanish publishers La Casita Grande and Lil' Libros are hoping to fill void of Latino authors that presently dent the world of books.  ​

Patty Rodriguez and Ariana Stein are two long time friends that have joined forces to create the publishing company - Lil' Libros.  The friends found it difficult to find Latino books for their children to read and have since increased the number of books produced by such authors, two fold.Lil' Libros publishing  house is based in Los Angeles and began with a bilingual manuscript Counting with Frida/Contando con Frida, which combines an account of a Mexican life painter - Frida Kahlo with number learning.  It was this book that visited the rooms of many publisher with little success and has since enabled Lil' Libros to grow into the upcoming publishing house it is today.

Literature of interest to readers appears to be science fiction, crime, romance, horror and experimental works.  Understandably, Marcantoni is not interested in receiving  "books about immigration or identity literature", he stressed.  La Casita Grande is dedicated to producing work that are experimental, innovative, genre-busting narratives in both English and Spanish. 

In late February, the first book is off the rank - Dysfunctional Males, which is a collection of short stories written by Argentinean author Fernando Sdrigotti.  The second title hitting stores is Coffee/Black, No Sugar - a bilingual poetry collection by A.B. Lugo, who is a Puerto Rican writer.

Likewise, Las Casita Grande have used the literary nous of author Jonathan Marcantoni - creator of 'Kings of 7th Avenue' (Editor-in-Chief of Aignos Publishing)  to increase the number of Latino titles produced and distributed each year.
